The Geography
The north east provinces are located in the highest and most rugged parts of the island. The coastal fringes from Amed to Yeh Sanih lie in the shadow of Bali’s volcanic spine and access is limited to three serviceable routes, all of which are narrow and winding. Previously considered an isolated area due to the lack of tourist infrastructure, and mostly only frequented by diving fanatics, the quiet and peaceful beaches are becoming increasingly popular as a Kuta getaway destination.

Tour Packages
There are so many interesting places to visit that it is impossible to include all of the main attractions in one tour or indeed in one day. Listed below are some of the most popular packages. Some allow for an overnight stopover at a beachfront resort hotel.

A suggested time frame for each day’s travel is included based on average traffic conditions. At any time, during the course of these tours, changes can be tailored to suit the client's personal requirements.

Please note that meal and refreshment breaks will be offered, but are subject to the client’s instruction, and that each tour price does not include these costs. Hotel tariff is not included.

Your Itinerary:
Day 1. We start with a short journey to the small village of Batubulan, whose residents are artisans in carving Bali's porous grey volcanic rock. The local temples displaying this fine stonework are the backdrop to a performance of the traditional Barong (mythical lion-dog creature) dance. On to Ubud where there is an opportunity for some sightseeing before taking refreshments at one of the oldest and most picturesque warungs in Bali. Our route now takes us through the fertile foothills of the mountain district where vegetable and rice crops flourish before finally ascending to the volcanic crater rim of Mount Batur. At the tiny village of Penelokan we stop for refreshments taking in the breathtaking panorama of this 1717 metre high mountain and the ambiance of Bali’s largest lake. As we continue our ascent through the mountains, the cooler air and sub-tropical climate supports more rainforest and crops of clove, cocoa and coffee abound. Our last stop is at the tiny village of Madenan where picture-postcard views of the journey already undertaken and the onward passage to the coast are to be enjoyed.
Our overnight destination is Tembok, with deluxe accommodation prepared at the Poinciana Resort (http://www.poincianaresortbali.com/).

Day2. After enjoying a full complementary breakfast, and some leisurely exploration of the area, we start our return journey along the scenic coastal route in the shadows of Mount Agung before heading inland to visit the royal bathing palace at Tirta Gangga. Our route through the city of Amlapura and the village of Selat offers the most spectacular examples of rice terracing on the island. On reaching Rendang, we enjoy lunch with a spectacular view of Mount Agung as a backdrop. The first attraction of the afternoon is Bali's most significant and sacred temple, Besakih, before we begin our descent to Semarapura, the capital of Bali's most important kingdom, Klungkung. Here we visit the delightful palace gardens (Taman Kertha Gosha) and the significant Supreme Court (Hall of Justice) building. Time permitting; we briefly stop at Goa Lawah (Pura Goa Lawah) - one of the nine directional sea temples of Bali - before returning directly to the tourist precinct.

PADI dive and snorkelling expeditions are available at Tulamben. Apart from the coral reefs, the focus of attention is the wreck of the US cargo ship “Liberty”. Torpedoed by the Japanese off the coast of Lombok, the vessel was towed to Bali, whereupon in 1963, it was rent in two by Agung’s eruption. The remains, resting 50 meters offshore are easily accessible.
Dive operators, Taunch Terminal, offer single dives for USD25/person.

Day2. After enjoying a full complementary breakfast, and some leisurely exploration of the area, we start our return journey with a visit to the Royal bathing palace at Tirta Gangga. We begin our descent through the mountains via the Pura Gamang pass (gamang means “to get dizzy”), a twisting route offering glorious panoramas over rice and corn plantations to the ocean. We stop is Candidasa to enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the neighbouring islands of Lembongan, Penida and Lombok. The afternoon begins with a short drive to Tenganan village, home of the Bali Aga people. Living in a walled compound, these descendants of the original Balinese, welcome you to a lifestyle little changed since the 11th century. Our last stop is the port of Padangbai, harbour to passenger traffic to Lombok, Gili, and Lembongan islands. Time permitting; we briefly stop at Goa Lawah (Pura Goa Lawah) - one of the nine directional sea temples of Bali - before returning directly to the tourist precinct.

Make your own salt on the beach at Amed. You can watch and participate in this age-old tradition. The region’s product, packaged as “artisan salt”, has gained worldwide acclaim for its unique grey colour and sharp flavour. Sunrise is a busy time on the beach, as the boats unload their overnight catch directly into the salt vats in preparation for distribution to the island’s markets.
