The Geography
There are many routes to north-west Bali with the roads skirting the volcanoes and lakes offering the most diversity. The northern coastal fringe is narrow and for the most part more arid than the rest of Bali. As a result, sea and air temperatures are warmer allowing coral reefs to flourish.

Tour Packages
There are so many interesting places to visit that it is impossible to include all of the main attractions in one tour or indeed in one day. Listed below are some of the most popular packages. Some allow for an overnight stopover at a beachfront resort hotel.

A suggested time frame for each day’s travel is included based on average traffic conditions. At any time, during the course of these tours, changes can be tailored to suit the client's personal requirements.

Please note that meal and refreshment breaks will be offered, but are subject to the client’s instruction, and that each tour price does not include these costs. Hotel tariff is not included.

Your Itinerary:
Travelling north-west through Tabanan there are opportunities to see some of Bali's most spectacular rice terraces with photo opportunities at our first stop for refreshments. Climbing steadily into the mountains we pass through the tranquil and picturesque villages of Sanda and Pupuan where coffee, cocoa and clove plantations abound.
Descending towards the north western coastline we drive directly to Pemuteran - a quiet seaside village renowned for its excellent coral reef diving and snorkeling.
After a leisurely lunch we return through the hillside village of Munduk, past the three great volcanic lakes - Bratan, Buyan and Tamblingan and the produce market town, Candikuning, before descending to the tourist precinct.

Snorkeling and Diving are possible along the easily accessible beach reefs from Pemuteran to Kalisada. Taman Sari Bali Cottages, being part of the coral reef restoration project, conduct lessons and provide boat trips for both activities.
Sand colour and texture is quite different in this area of Bali. A combination of volcanic ash and coral residue combine to create a coarse dark mix. Beach walking in protective footwear is advisable.

Our early morning departure sees us steadily climb in a northerly direction to the hillside produce market areas of Bedugal and Candikuning. We take a refreshment break overlooking the district’s spectacular agricultural landscape before continuing through dense mountainous terrain that drops sharply to the sea at Sangsit. We stop briefly to explore the rice temple (Pura Beji) - dedicated to the goddess Dewi Sri - before heading to Bali’s old capital and second largest city, Singaraja. We drive through the city’s wide tree-lined boulevards and view examples of Dutch colonial architecture.
After a short drive along the northern coastline we arrive at the tranquil fishing village of Lovina where we enjoy a leisurely lunch by the sea.
Our return journey begins with a visit to the hillside village of Banjar, known for its healing hot spring pools (Air Panas Banjar) before travelling to the picturesque district of Pupuan. Our descent through the coffee, cocoa and clove plantations eventually brings us to the undulating hills of the Tabanan district and picture-perfect views of some of the best rice terracing on the island.

Hot Springs bathing is a pastime highly regarded by the locals as a "cure-all" for stress and muscle ailment. The water is slightly sulphurous and pleasantly hot, so you might enjoy it more in the morning or evening rather than in the heat of the Balinese day.
Meditation rooms are available for visitors at the Brahma Vihara Arama monastery. You will be required to wear long trousers or a sarong to gain entry.

Your Itinerary:
Day 1. A short early morning drive through the Seminyak district takes us to Tanah Lot (Pura Tanah Lot) one of Bali’s most picturesque sea temples. Normally frequented by tourists at sunset, our early morning visit allows peaceful contemplation of this significant Bali landmark. We now leave the seaside and journey a short distance before taking a refreshment break at the village of Wanasari, home to one of the biggest butterfly parks (Taman Kupu Kupu) in southeast Asia.
Continuing north we climb towards Bali's second largest volcano, 2276m high Mount Batukau. On its slopes lies the picturesque village of Sanda where we take lunch amongst the sloping rice terraces.
Our afternoon route to the north coast takes us through cooler tropical rainforest where coffee, cocoa and clove plantations abound. We stop at the hillside village of Banjar, known for its healing hot spring pools (Air Panas Banjar). There is an opportunity to take a refreshing swim before travelling to our overnight destination at Lovina. Deluxe accommodation awaits at the Aditya Beach Resort (http://www.adityalovina.com/).

Day2. Our day starts with a 5:30am hotel pick-up and a short drive to Lovina beach, where a chartered boat will transport you to the dolphin rendezvous. Approximately 1 hour later, we return to the hotel for a full complementary breakfast.
After checkout, we ascend into the mountains once again to our first stop at Bali’s largest waterfall, Gitgit (Air Terjun Gitgit). Continuing through spectacular terrain, the twisting road opens into a panorama of lakes and volcanic peaks. We take refreshments enjoying the cool fragrant air and picture-postcard landscapes before descending into the island’s agricultural heartland at Candikuning where we stop to visit the Ulun Danu lake temple and its adjoining botanical gardens.
After lunch at Bedugal, overlooking the district’s tranquil lakes and mountains, there is an opportunity to visit the local fruit and vegetable market – a must in mango, strawberry and mangosteen seasons – before returning directly to the tourist district.

Fruit. Known around the world as the “King” of fruit, durian is famous for its rich flavoured flesh and pungent smell. The “Queen” is the lesser known manggis (mangosteen). Shaped and coloured like a passionfruit, the white central flesh is extremely sweet.
Nuts. Unlike processed imports, local cashew nuts sold in the produce markets are extremely bitter. Peanuts (kechang) are far more palatable.

Day 1. A short early morning drive through the Seminyak district takes us to Tanah Lot (Pura Tanah Lot) one of Bali’s most picturesque sea temples. Normally frequented by tourists at sunset, our early morning visit allows peaceful contemplation of this significant Bali landmark. Continuing westward following the rugged Jembrana coastline we reach the popular surfing centre of Medewi. After refreshments, we visit the sea temple at Rambut Siwi (Pura Rambut Siwi) before heading northwards to the mountainous Manggissari village. This journey is a steep climb from the coastal plain and provides some fine views back towards the sea. We also drive through a giant acacia tree (Bunut Bolong) that forms a tunnel across the road.
After lunch in the idyllic town of Pupuan we continue towards the northern coastline, stopping at the hillside village of Banjar, known for its healing hot spring pools (Air Panas Banjar). There is an opportunity to take a refreshing swim before travelling to our overnight destination at Pemuteran. Deluxe accommodation awaits at the Taman Sari Beach Resort (http://www.balitamansari.com/cottages-main.html).

Day2. After enjoying a full complementary breakfast we board a powered outrigger for a 30 minute journey to the small island of Menjangan. The morning is spent snorkelling the coral reefs, diving, or simply relaxing on the white sandy beach. We will return to the hotel for lunch and an early afternoon checkout. Our return journey takes us along the north coast before heading inland to stop at the picturesque mountain village of Munduk. After taking a refreshment break the twisting road opens into a panorama of lakes and volcanic peaks before descending into the island’s agricultural heartland at Candikuning. Here we stop to visit the Ulun Danu lake temple and its adjoining botanical gardens and, time permitting, take the opportunity to visit the local fruit and vegetable market – a must in mango, strawberry and mangosteen seasons – before returning directly to the tourist district.

Help release young turtles into the wild. The turtle hatchery on Pemuteran beach promotes the protection of the wild turtle population and aims to stop, or at least diminish the slaughtering of these creatures. Visitors are invited to actively participate in this daily event.
