The Geography |
Broadly speaking, this is the area in the lee of Bali's largest volcano Mount Agung (Gunung Agung). The coastal plain is wide and relatively flat from Sanur to Kusamba and is serviced by the island's newest roadway. Travelling north east around the coast; the closer you get to Agung, the narrower the land available for habitation. As a consequence, fishing sustains the villages from Padangbai to Candidasa and beyond. The western slopes of Mount Agung are particularly fertile as well as being the location of Bali's most significant and sacred temple at Besakih. |
